In New Orleans, eating isn’t just something you do; it’s a way of life! While the Big Easy boasts nearly 900 restaurants, Tulane students find plenty to keep them satisfied right on campus. From gourmet salads to falafel to late-night eats, you can find it all at Tulane.
Bruff Commons is the main dining facility on campus. The Tulane meal plan gives you unlimited access to Bruff's all-you-can-eat buffet. Daily offerings include a hot entrée, a sandwich and salad bar, pizza, a made to order pasta bar, an international entrée, fresh fruit, cereal, bagels, a dessert bar with soft serve ice cream, and vegan, vegetarian and kosher options. And staying true to its New Orleans roots, Bruff always serves red beans and rice on Mondays, and chicken and seafood gumbo, fried catfish and hushpuppies on Fridays.
For something a bit fancier, Le Gourmet is the place to go. Le Gourmet offers an extensive menu of gourmet wraps, sandwiches and salads. You can either order you food to go or enjoy it on the patio right outside. Le Gourmet also has a selection of pre-packed, ready-to-go entrees, dips and appetizers as well as a small grocery area with organic and gourmet items. It’s like a mini-Whole Foods, right on campus!
Located in the Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life, the LBC Food Court has a dizzying array of options, all of which accept your meal plan dollars. Choose from Byblos Mediterranean cuisine, Taco Bell, Einsten’s Brothers Bagels, WOW Wingery, Quizno’s, Sandella’s Wraps and Salads, Freshens Smoothie Company and Sushi Nori. Fast, convenient and delicious…what could be better?
Der Rathskellar, affectionately called “The Rat” by students, is the afterhours hangout at Tulane. Located in the Lavin-Bernick Center for Universty Life and open from 8pm until 7am, The Rat is where students go to satisfy their late-night cravings. The extensive menu includes sub sandwiches, wings, quesadillas and cheese fries, or the kind of food that tastes better after you’ve been up all night studying!
Pecan praline iced coffee and bananas foster café au lait are just two of the unusual and delicious java offerings you’ll find at PJ’s Coffee and Tea. This New Orleans-based coffee shop has two locaions on Tulane's campus, and it is a popular hang-out and study spot for Tulane students.
The Drawing Board Café gets its name from its location: the School of Architecture. Students from all different majors, however, frequent the Drawing Board. With hot entrees, sandwiches, salads and pastries, the Drawing Board is a convenient place to grab a bite to eat between classes.
Tulane also has its own min-grocery store right on campus. McAlister Market is where Tulane students go when they are looking to pick up a few grocery items on the run. It has a wide variety of snack and frozen items as well as a small selection of produce.
Located on the bottom floor of the Reily Recreation Center is the Reily Smoothie Bar. The smoothie bar has a huge selection of frozen beverages and healthy snacks, and it often provides students with a perfect, after-workout snack.
